Based on their Military brethren, these longarms were used primarily for foraging game in the countryside. Early European flintlock fowling guns and muskets came to America and became the flintlock Kentucky/Pennsylvania Longrifle. These transitioned into percussion ignition in the mid 1800s and lever action repeating cartridge rifles made famous by Winchester shortly there after.

Civilian adaptations of military designs were prevalent throughout Europe and America in the form of single shot Flintlock and Percussion self-defense and target pistols, such as Dueling Pistols, Kentucky Pistols, Deringers and Belt & Pocket Pistols. Cartridge revolvers took over in the 1870s led by Colt and Remington. Guns in wooden presentation cases are always very desirable.

Conversion to Cartridge weapons after the Civil War and used in the Mexican War, Indian Wars and Spanish/American War.
